Blossoms Among the Ruins---When Afton Villa Plantation burned to the ground in 1963, nothing much remained but the gardens.  Genevieve and Morrell Trimble saw the 250 acres of rubble and overgrown landscape, fell in love with it, and in 1972, embarked on their huge 20-year project to restore the lost gardens.

Afton Villa is open from March 1 - June 30 and October 1 - November 30th of each year.

Rosedown Gardens

Rosedown Gardens

Hwy 10St. FrancisvilleLA70775

Rosedown  gardens were the province of Martha Turnbull throughout her life. The Turnbulls’ honeymoon in Europe included great formal gardens of France and Italy, an influence seen in Martha's activities at Rosedown. The gardens grew out from the house over a span of many decades, to cover approximately 28 acres. In the 19th century, Rosedown was one of the few privately maintained formal gardens in the United States.
